ARTIST STATEMENT

These new paintings include images of men clipped from magazines or taken surreptitiously with my iPhone outside of Goldman Sachs. These are collaged onto vague and sugary landscapes, overlaid with handwriting based on Leopold von Sacher-Masoch’s letters and his novel ‘Venus and Furs.’ As in all my work, the writing doubles as a visual element and as text. My aim is to take all the all of the messy psychosexual and sociopolitical things that interest me, smash them together and find the poetry in that.
